Red pepper garland for the kitchen

ελληνικό κείμενο

Last summer our neighbor gave us a lot of red peppers from his vegetable garden. It was impossible to consume them all so I decided to dry what was left. I didn't know what I was going to do with them but then I remembered that traditionally peppers are hang in a row to dry and be used in winter, so I decided to make a pepper garland to decorate my kitchen.

Here 's how I did it.

First I took a heart shaped cookie cutter  and painted blue with acrylic paint.

I left it aside to dry.

I also cut a few pieces of various fabrics.

I took my dry peppers

and used a needle to pass fishing line through about one third of them.

I tied the thread on the heart cookie cutter leaving some space to tie also the little pieces of fabric.

I tied another piece of fishing line on the other end of the heart, tied on it the rest of the fabric pieces and passed the line through the rest of the peppers.

I had some relatively soft wire, I cut 20 cm of it, folded it in half, then bent it to form a hook. I turned the other end of the hoop around a pen to form a circle. I made two of this hooks and tied on them the two ends of the garland.

Ready!

Very cute! I have a basket of those from my garden, and they've dried down really well. I should do this! Thanks. :-)
