Fougaro: industrial style and art

ελληνικό κείμενο

For the stressed, dizzy, Athenians, Nafplio is always a favorite destination, even for a one day excursion. After only one and a half hour by car from Athens, one can visit the old town, walk by the sea, enjoy the breathtaking view from the castle, drink coffee or have a delicious lunch and come back to the big city before midnight fresh and relaxed. Since last October, there is one more reason that makes Nafplio the right place to visit and this is Fougaro (which means smokestack).

Fougaro is an old canning factory that closed its doors in 1956 to reopen them in 2012 as a venue dedicated to art and creativity. Within its three complexes of stone buildings and vast outdoor space you will find a library, a workshop, a coffee shop-bar,  exhibition and concert halls, the ArtShop, an amphitheater and an open air cinema.

The renovation process lasted 15 years but the result is pretty impressive. I hope I will soon have the opportunity to visit myself this fascinating place.
There is more to see here, here, here and here.
