Doilies, the come back

If you have spent many years hating this kind of handcrafted creation, thinking of it as boring, old fashioned and bad taste, it's time to change your mind. Doilies are everywhere, either the real thing or their motifs, but happily, they now look fresh, contemporary and desirable. And if you have thrown away your grandma's doilies you will be very sorry.

How to make stuff with recycled magazines

If you look for a way to get rid of old magazines don't throw them away, instead do something creative and useful with them.

I stumbled upon this vase from recycled magazines in House of Handmade which gave me the idea to look for more inspiration on how to use the piles of magazines that accumulate week after week.

If you want to begin with something easy, use recycled magazines to make some coasters. Watch this video to find how.

I think this mobile looks really nice, you can try and make one yourself, with recycled magazines, click here for the tutorial.

If you like these boxes learn how to make them here.

If you prefer bowls, on Indiepublic you 'll learn how to make them.

DIY lights

Chichipiru's adventures to find the perfect designer light fixture gave me the idea to search the same theme from the diy point of view.

Olive Tree Girl made this cute light fixture with wire and ribbon and here explains how to do it.

These colorful lights that look like U.F.O.s on a night sky are made of plastic colanders. Click here to read the tutorial.

On Addicted 2 Decorating I found not one but two beautiful projects, one with multi-color straws and one with egg cartons.

On Apartment Therapy you will find the step by step instructions to make a light using branches and another one with coffee cups here.
